Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska Partners with Indian Health Service to Improve Water Sources and Treatment

The Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska’s Executive Council recently met with Ted Schlueter, P.E., Senior Field Engineer of the Indian Health Service (IHS), to discuss the implementation of a comprehensive plan to improve, maintain, and upgrade the Tribe’s water sources and treatment systems. The collaboration is part of an ongoing initiative that will continue through 2026, ensuring a modern, resilient water infrastructure for the Tribe.

As part of the project, construction will begin in the spring of 2025 on a new backup water supply and booster station, aimed at improving water pressure and distribution. This upgrade will provide the Tribe with a more reliable and sustainable water system.

The ongoing work will be implemented in phases, with the overall goal of strengthening the Tribe’s water infrastructure to meet current and future needs. The backup water supply and booster station are key components of this long-term plan, ensuring that the Tribe has access to clean and reliable water even in the event of system disruptions.

The project, which will span several years and conclude in 2026, represents a major investment in the Tribe’s future, enhancing both water quality and distribution systems. The Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska is committed to ensuring its members have safe, reliable access to water now and in the years to come.
