Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska

Fish and Wildlife

The Fish and Wildlife Department is charged with enforcing fish and wildlife laws, but the program’s conservation wardens also coordinate search and rescue operations, collect fish and wildlife data, and assist the public when they encounter problems with wildlife.

The Iowa Tribe Fish and Wildlife department had several projects happening in 2021. Quail, pheasants, and Hungarian partridges were released. On August 18th, 2021, 1000 quail were released at various locations on the Reservation. On October 22nd, 2021, 200 rooster pheasants, 800 hen pheasants, and 400 Hungarian partridges were released at various locations on the Reservation. These birds were paid for with grant money from the BIA and purchased from Grimm Brothers LLC in Morrill, Kansas.

In partnership with New Century Environmental, a fisheries study has been completed. The scientific studies are related to: stream fish diversity and abundance, fish community diversity, and abundance in tributary reaches connecting to the Missouri River and aquatic habitat conditions.

We will continue to plant food plots for deer, game birds and the tribe’s honey bees.
