Elder (55+) Housing Needs Assessment — Anonymous Survey

The Iowa Tribe Housing Authority (ITHA) invites Tribal Members to complete an anonymous survey to help plan a new 55+ elder housing community on the reservation.

Who should respond

  • Tribal Members who are 55+ now or who will turn 55 by December 31, 2026.
  •  You may skip any question; estimated time to complete is about 10–12 minutes.

Quick project overview (read first)

  • Phase One includes infrastructure development and up to three 3-D design-build home duplexes (6 homes total). Phase two is being applied for in FY25.
  • Homes will be safe, accessible, energy-efficient, and culturally relevant.
  • All residents must be 55+, except for an approved designated caregiver living with the elder household.
  • The elder community will be integrated with a new Elder Meal Site & Community Building and is near the IHS clinic and tribal administration building

Timeline and waiting list

  • Construction is not expected to be completed until 2027.
  • First occupancy is anticipated in winter 2027.
  • Waiting-list instructions will be announced in late 2026. This survey does not place anyone on a waiting list.

About this survey

  • This is a comprehensive elder (55+) housing needs assessment.
  • Aside from the details above about Phase One, all other questions (repairs, rehabilitation, services, etc.) are informational only to understand future elder housing needs.
  • Any future programs depend on funding awarded to the Iowa Tribe Housing Authority through state and federal sources.
